Health News With Yosef Meystel: Study Shows That Dessert With Breakfast Boosts Weight Loss

Yosef MeystelWait, say that again? Dessert for breakfast helps weight loss? Our inner child is yelling “Take that mom, I can have ice cream for breakfast!” Before you indulge in an ice cream sundae, brownies and candy know that’s not the full story - read more with Yosef Meystel.
What’s important to take away from this is that starting your morning with a high protein food and a “dessert” like a doughnut or slice of cake might be able to help you keep the weight off.  "A high protein and carbohydrate breakfast may overcome these compensatory changes and prevent obesity relapse,” researchers from Tel Aviv University’s Wolfson Medical Center in Israel concluded. The researchers speculated that dieters who had sweets with breakfast had lower levels of ghrelin, the hunger hormone, so they weren’t as hungry and were less likely to crave the foods they’d eaten earlier in the day.
It’s suggested that eating high protein food with every meal will also contribute to weight loss since it will keep you fuller. For more health news, please check back with Yosef Meystel's website.

Yosef Meystel's Recommendation for Senior Sleep

Yosef MeystelYosef Meystel reflects on the idea that growing up, our parents always told us that we need our sleep so we can grow. As kids we put up a big fit about it, as teenagers/young adults we wanted to sleep in as late as possible. But now that most of us are older, how much sleep do we need?
For kids or growing young adults, they need a lot more sleep than we do. As much as we’d love to sleep in until 10 every morning, it’s not something we need.
Older adults and seniors need about seven to eight hours of sleep. For a consistent sleep schedule, Yosef Meystel has read that adults should:
  • Try to wake up at the same time and go to bed at the same time.
  • Spend less time in bed during the day; otherwise adults will have a harder time falling asleep when it’s actually time to go to bed.
  • Avoid caffeine, sweets and too much booze in the evening.
  • Avoid television in bed or right before bed.
  • With better health, it’s easier for adults to fall asleep and stay asleep.
